Built for Real-World Sterile Processing
STEAMVision uses immersive XR guidance to digitize sterile processing workflows. The platform overlays step-by-step instructions directly into the technician’s field of view, enabling standardized execution during real instrument reprocessing. This approach transforms training into real-time guided performance, improving consistency and reducing preventable errors.

Why Mixed Reality First
STEAMVision was initially developed using Microsoft HoloLens 2 because it enabled real-time interaction between digital guidance and physical instrument workflows. This allowed us to validate:
● Hands-free workflow guidance
● Real-world usability in SPD environments
● Interactive training during live processing
● Spatial alignment with instruments and trays
● Feasibility of immersive sterile processing workflows
This phase confirmed the viability of immersive guidance in sterile processing.

Evolving to XR-Agnostic Deployment
As XR hardware continues to evolve, STEAMVision is transitioning to a device-agnostic architecture. This allows:
● Lower cost hardware options
● Flexible deployment across facilities
● Scalability across health systems
● Future AI and computer vision integration
● Expansion into OR workflows
● Long-term platform sustainability
This pivot ensures STEAMVision is not dependent on a single device and can scale across healthcare environments.

Future Platform Expansion
STEAMVision is designed to expand into a broader surgical readiness platform, including:
● Instrument recognition
● Workflow analytics
● Competency tracking
● OR integration
● AI-assisted guidance
● Real-time compliance support
STEAMVision is building the infrastructure layer for surgical readiness.
